Cartago's Cultural Center since
2004
It
was built in 1924 and it was declared
a historical and architectonic monument
on March, 1987. Its architecture is neoclassic;
it was first used as bank (Banco Credito
Agricola de Cartago) offices and on May
2004 it was renewed by this institution
in order to create a cultural space for
the community. Nowadays, “Culture,
Youth and Sports Ministry”, locates
here the Directional Region of Culture.
Public
Library:
Costa
Rica’s president and The Culture,
Youth and Sports Ministry, according to
the article 140, third and eighteenth
part of the Political Constitution, article
25.1 of Public Administration General
Law and law 5347 of November 8th, 1973
and considering:
1. The building known as Public Library
is a vital element for the cultural life
of the city.
2. The building that was constructed in
1924 belongs to Banco Credito Agricola
de Cartago. It is a neoclassic building
with great historical and social value
for the development of the city.
3. It is a valuable prove of our country
architecture styles, because of its materials,
space use and total design.
4. It is the government obligation to
conserve the cultural patrimonies, to
reinforce our identity.
For
instance it is declared:
Article 1: the building known as Cartago’s
Public Library, located on the 2nd Avenue,
1st-3rd Street, First District and from
Cartago Province and recognized under
the State name, 953 tome, 222 folio, 2
seat and 31147 number; it is declared
a site with historical and architectonic
interest.
Article 2: this statement prohibits the
building’s demolition as well as
any partial or total renew without previous
authorization of The Culture, Youth and
Sports Ministry Patrimonies Department.
Article 3: its eventual restoration will
be done by the technical supervision of
the Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry
Patrimonies Department.
Article 4: it is valid from this publication
on.
It
