According to the General law of Public
Administration. Law No. 5397 from November
8, 1973 and considering:
1. The celebrated ex-president of the
Republic, Dr. Jesús Jiménez
Zamora was the father of Free and Obligatory
Education of the Nation.
2.
Through decree XLVIII of July 24, 1886
he was declared a symbol of the nation.
3. The house located in the place where
this celebrated citizen and ex-president
of the nation was born, possesses a great
value for the cultural patrimony of the
country, and is in perfect shape.
Therefore it is decreed:
Art. 1: Declare the house located in the
place where the ex-president of the Republic
Dr. Jesús Jiménez Zamora
was born, a relic of historical and architectonical
interest. Sited in the city of Cartago,
Streets 4-6, 3rd Avenue, north of the
Capuchinos Chapel.
Art.2: This decree prohibits any remodeling
or demolition, total or partial, of this
site.
Art.3:
The State University From a Distance
(UNED), will be able to continue with
regular courses for indefinite time
through the Cartago Academic Center,
as long as the Ministry of Culture,
Youth and Sports doesn’t need
it for another purpose.
Art.4: The Cartago Social and Cultural
Association (ASCAR) is in charge of
the maintenance, alongside with the
UNED that will sign an agreement with
the Ministry in this sense. Any restoration
or remodeling must be done under the
advice of the Department of Patrimony
of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and
Sports.
Art.5: This decree abolishes the Decree
No. 15956-C of December 19, 1984.
Art.6: It shall be put in effect as
soon as published.

– San Jose, on the twelfth day
of the month of March of nineteen eighty-five.
