tale about the creation of Jesús Jiménez School

It
was created in the 1900 during the administration
of Mr. Rafael Iglesias Castro. It owes
its names in honor of the ex-president
Jesús Jiménez who established
“teaching as free, mandatory, and
paid by the state. It was first on the
corner of 1st Avenue, Street 1 were the
ex-president was born.
In 1914, during the administration of
Mr. Alfredo González Flores the
first stage of the building was constructed
with the cost of 15 000 pounds. In 1936,
during Leon Cortés’ administration
the second stage of the school was built.
The school has its philosophy based on
Goals and Objectives of Costa Rican Education.
Each one of them encourages at all times,
personal help without any functions distinction.

Jesús Jiménez Zamora
He studied in Guatemala. He was one of
the most remarkable students at San Carlos
Barromeo University, where he got his
doctor degree.
A little time after working as a doctor
he started worrying about the political
problems of Costa Rica.
He was a governon in Cartago, Congress
Deputy, State Secretary; in which he always
accomplished with great responsibility.
In 1863, he was elected president of Costa
Rica. He was very interested in our country,
making an effort in the opening of schools.
During his work as president he contributed
to the free and mandatory education. He
put the first stone at San Luis Gonzaga
High School.
He cooperated with the improvement of
communication roads, among them the Atlantic
road; during his government the idea of
an oceanic road came up.
Once he retired from politics, years later
he was named as an outstanding member
of his time.
